The Davis Inoculator is a hand held plastic device designed to rapidly and accurately measure out a carrier (such as corn cob grits) containing lepidoptera eggs or freshly hatched larvae onto greenhouse or field plants or onto the surface of an artificial diet in rearing containers. This device is simple to use and researchers have successfully used this device to meter out not only lepidopterous insects, but also arthropods, such as aphids and mites. Additionally, it has potential utility for metering out granular insecticides and fertilizers in a rapid, accurate, and safe manner. Different amounts of these materials can be released by varying the hole size in the Inoculator paddle.
